I CANNOT HEAR!

I cannot hear thunder,
Or listen to rain.
Nor birds that are singing,
The sweetest refrain.
I cannot hear anger or threat from a horse,
The scream of sheer agony,
Or sigh of remorse.
The noise of an engine that rushes up-hill,
Is just as quiet...as a daffodil.
A rap on the window, or knock on the door,
The beat of a drum that has faded away.
A honk from a ship,
The whistle of trains,
The bubble of water,
Nor the sound of kid's laughter.
But I can see a grin.
At this time of life,
I must never give in.
