The Rod of Profion is an ancient wizards attempt to control gold dragons. It is a major artifact that has the power to summon and dominate gold dragons.
Dragon Summoning: The rod can be used once per day to summon 2,000 Hit Dice of Large and Huge gold dragons. The summoned dragons remain for one day.
Dragon Domination: Dragons summoned by the rod are automatically dominated, as per the spell Dominate Monster. whoever holds the rod dominates the dragons. The domination effect has a duration of one day. Gold dragons asked to do something can make a Will save (DC 20) to resist the order and break the hold of the domination effect. Obviously self-destructive orders are never carried out.
Also, due to the faulty construction of the rod, once used to successfully summon gold dragons, the rod has a 50% chance of failing after each command given to a gold dragon, causing that dragon to be released from the domination effect and allowed to act as it wishes.
