ENVIRONMENTAL SUIT OPERATION

This is training and practice in using and maintaining routine Environmental Suits. It covers everything from the early diving suits to Deep Space Suits (DSS) to High Tech military zero-G combat environment suits. The operator in Medium Tech or higher levels also know how to carry out emergency procedures and repairs to ensure safe continued use. Environment suits for different sexes have negligible differences beyond the cut or fit, however in High Tech levels alien life form environmental suits need specialist training for each species.

Each suit has Manoeuvers, these are dependent on the Tech level and power of the suit. Manual or non-powered suits have only one Manoeuver, while Medium Tech level low-powered suits have two, and high Tech powered suits have anything from three to six.

Each suit suffers an encumbrance penalty unless Very High Tech. This ranges from 1-10 and is multiplied by 2 to represent the fatigue caused when wearing the suit, usually applied to Stamina. Low skill Ratings show an unfamiliarity with the suits weight and burden, whilst a high Rating indicates regular or at least very familiar use of environmental suits and the burdens of wearing them.

Environmental suits may be built into certain items such as Deep Space Power Lifters or body armour. Environmental Suit Operation (ESOp) gives no ability to fight in combat situations or use weapons associated with the suit. The combat skill Battlesuit is needed in those cases.

1-20 Untrained. Can operate and function for 75% of suits range and deal with common problems and procedures with assistance, must have qualified helper. X 2 encumbrance penalties. –2 Manoeuvres.
21-35 Suit up alone and operate for 90% of Range, deal with emergencies and complicated procedures as well as short-term in-suit repairs, should have qualified operator nearby. -1 Manoeuver.
36-45 Suit up and operate under difficult situations with up to 99% of suits range. Can handle very complicated repairs in suit and long-term problems. Has maximum of suits Manoeuvres and can perform all tasks designed for the suit. ¾ encumbrance penalty.
46-60 Suit up alone in 75% time and deal with all emergencies, problems and maintenance schedules and has a +1 Manoeuver. ½ encumbrance penalty.
61-80 Suit up in 50% time deal with all common and rare emergencies, as well as combat trained effectiveness. Gain +1 manoeuvre. ¼ encumbrance penalty.
80+ Familiar with suit so well gain +1 Manoeuver and no encumbrance penalty.

NOTE: The suit ratings are for common use suits for that tech level and profession. Uncommon, military or alien suits may have large penalties to skill ratings due to unfamiliarity in their workings and/or uses.
