Skill with machinary. Understanding of mechanical principles and methids. Allows repair, construction, and design. This skill is modified by Tech-Level and education. Can be self taught but only to a maximum of 49 Rating, then some formal training is necessary to progress to deeper understanding. May take Specialities once Rating reaches 50, losing 5 to gain a Speciality at 50 Rating. At any time the base skill can be converted by as much as wished into Specifics. Must have the appropriate tools at hand to complete repairs or alterations.

Success in a roll determines successful repair or construct and also the time taken. If roll is less than half Rating then time is halved. If critical success then either time or quality can be halved or doubled. Rolls above Rating by only up to 5 mean the job has not been completed yet and another roll must be made when a quarter of the original time has passed. This can continue indefinitely if the result is always a fail by up to 5 only. Fails of over 5 show incorrect repair, construct. Rolls of twice rating show a mishap or/and time quadrupled. Critical fails reasult in catasrophic breakage, explosion, or result (if Rating is 81+ then no explosion but time is quadrupled).

Critical fails result in catastrophic breakage, explosion or result (if Rating 81+ then no explosion but time is instead quadrupled). Design rolls of twice Rating shows inability to design until further research and/or total failure to operate. Critical fail design rolls show great fault and time taken is quadrupled (if Rating is 61+ then designer may immediately make another Mechanics roll and success means they know of any flaw in design and may attempt to rectify).
