DEFENDING GUARDIAN

Manc forms exist which enable the quick-witted Mancer to overcome almost every foe they may encounter. However, some times it is necessary to call on the aid of warriors or other artisans with which to aid the Mancer against a particular foe. Another way is to use this Manc as a form of backup when there is no other to aid them. Its primary purpose is one of protection and defense, its offensive powers being governed by the Mancer and indeed partly by the foe. The Mancer has to stipulate who or which foe or foes are defended against at casting.

The Mancer creates an abstract being from which a countering force against the foe is applied. This new creature is of equal ABV and DBV to the foe but may not be equal in its powers. This is dependent upon the Level of the creating Mancer or casting Mancer and the foe's abilities and powers, matching a number of powers or abilities equal to the Mancer's Level.

Abilities include: Manc per 2 spells, Flight, each psionic power, Poison, Paralysis, Growth, Regeneration, and Life Drain. They are matched by the Defending Guardian in this order.

[Example 1: A lich has 10 spells, an Earth Lore (psionic power) and Life Drain Touch; this lich is in combat with a Level 1 wizard who casts Defending Guardian against the lich. The Defending Guardian has the same BV's as the lich, as well as 2 of the 10 spells that the lich has (2 spells per Level of the Mancer, and starting with the lowest Manc of the lich first). The lich as a distinct advantage.

Example 2: The same lich battles a Level 7 Mancer who casts Defending Guardian against the lich. The guardian has the same BV's as the lich, all 10 spells equal to the lich's (a Level 7 Mancer could match a total of 14 spells), an equivalent Lore to the lich's Earth Lore (psionic power), and Life Drain Touch.

Example 3: Later a similar lich battles the same Level 7 Mancer who casts Defending Guardian against this lich also. This lich has 10 spells, an Air Lore, Paralysis, Regeneration and Life Drain Touch. The Guardian therefore also has the same BV's as the lich, all 10 spells equal to the lich's (a Level 7 Mancer could match a total of 14 spells), an equivalent Lore to the lich's Air Lore (psionic power), and Paralysis, but it does not gain Regeneration or Life Drain Touch as the Mancer's Level does not match the number of abilities or powers of the lich. Again, this lich has the advantage.]

The defending Guardian then does all it can to protect, and if possible, defeat the foe it has been cast against. Each Guardian created is unique, often taking a form similar to a xenopes' mutations or combinations of many other creatures or elemental life forms. Perhaps amorphous and using Manc, or a Lore to complete its task. Upon successfully defeating the foe, it returns to its normal state, apparently nothing! If the Guardian is far weaker than the foe and is not destroyed itself but can not harm the foe, it will merely attempt to save the caster from harm, by either self-sacrifice or by removing the caster from the scene,gain using the abilities or powers based upon those of the foe. If the defending Guardian is defeated it simply vanishes into thin air.

To create a Defending Guardian a sculpture, effigy, painting, or some other form of representation must be made called an Ilanqon. The Ilanqon may be anything the caster wishes but it must be made by them and requires their own artistry to create. This pushes the Mancer's artistry and knowledge to the test. The Ilanqon may be of anything which symbolizes protection in some form, be it a great beast, a warrior, or a barred gateway. It is consumed in the casting of the Manc; it is in fact this which transforms into the Defending Guardian, though its actual form is in no way governed by it. The Ilanqon must be at least one inch high and weight no less than 2 ounces, but may be as tall or weigh as much as the Mancer wishes. The appearing Guardian will be unknown.

The Defending Guardian may be thwarted by various means. Banish Manc immediately dispels the Guardian as long as the Banish Manc is cast by a greater-powered Mancer than the Guardian's creator. Befriend, Mind Control, Hypnotise, and Restoration have no effect upon the Guardian. Enervation only has half effect upon the Guardian. The Guardian also gains a Save Vs Manc equal to its creator at the time of creation.

Spell Casting:-

This is not a Spell but the activation vocals needed to activate the Defending Guardian. The Ilanqon must be placed or thrown to the ground and then the vocals spoken. This representation must have already been created (See Item Creation). This calling of the Defending Guardian does not need any spell casting ability other thanthe ability to say the correct words in Old Tongue or Ancient Tongue, decided at the time of creation. By adding an extra Power Level to the creation difficulty a password of some sort can be added which must be said to call the Defending Guardian, this word can be anything the creating Mancer wishes. This password is added to the very end of the spell vocals.

Item Creation:-

To create items for Defending Guardian, vocals and a creation of the piece is essential for the Ilanqon to be created with Manc properties. Depending on the item it must be placed in the Manc Üolarm and the vocals repeated every Passage.

The representation itself must be made from a material that is akin to the Mancer, and this is usually different for each Mancer depending on their character and personality as well as their Alingment. Only a sculpture, effigy, painting, drawing (not a sketch), or carving will suffice. Lores may be used to help create these representations, called Ilanqon.

Each Ilanqon takes 20 Passages to create -1 Passage for each Level of the Mancer to a minimum of 5 Passages. The Mancer must have the appropriate artistry skill. Poorly-made Ilanqons are discarded and new ones must be made, although the Ilanqon does not need to be masterful, just recognisable and in proportion. Exquisite artistry however, does decrease the time by 2 Passages (not lower than the minimum), and reduces the Power by 1 Level also.

Tarse leaves burning, adding atmosphere, lowers the time by 1 Passage per handfull of leaves to a maximum of 3 handfulls. Anymore and the Manc will be extended by a Passage for each extra handfull. The handfulls must also be equal in size and must be seized by the same hand each time without any tool being used or else they will have no effect. Once the chanting and the smoking has been completed the item must then be placed within a well-lighted place for a time equal to the Mancer's Level in Turns.

Spell storing is not possible with this Manc as a physical representation is needed.

To add a password to the Ilanqon it must be chanted once after each 'Beloin Tenor Acrash' line. See Text.

A sorcerer can create an Ilonqon if they desire (however few do so) by using Tassendiscellab then by doubling the Power Levels and the time. This is extremely difficult for them to do and so many fail, even those of great power.
