RESURRECT DEAD

Shoomat Lomiar

The power over life and death comes in many forms, but this Manc is perhaps the most dramatic and powerful, and often cause the most consternation in the common folk about Mancers. This is the returning of a dead person's (or other creature's) spirit and body. It forces the departed spirit back into its original body, regardless of how much body is left and reforms any remaining parts of the body, making the being alive and well again.

The resurrected being awaken afresh and healthy. Their body is as it was at the point of its death, meaning that any long-term, healed damage already taken still remains, such as missing limbs or organs, scars, or aging effects, and such. They reform naked, except where their dead body was still clothed. Unfortunately, the resurrected being can not learn from how they died, for upon awaken alive and anew they have no memory of event leading up to their death. The length of memory loss is dependent upon the length of time they were dead before being raised.

It should be noted that certain persons who had previously given their souls to a devil, deity, or other otherworldly entity, may not be exactly as they were before death. Sometimes the divinity is displeased with this raising of the soul and refuses such a boon, causing the Manc to fail. Other times the divinity is pleased that their servant is resurrected and may give them a boon of some kind upon their awakening, though they may not be aware of it until guided to its revelation by their divinity.

The Manc is never certain to succeed, aside from the divinity meddling, there are many other factors that decide if the attempt to Resurrect Dead is successful. These factors include: length of time dead, if the being was religious (and thus had a connected divinity), the number of Mancers performing the ceremony, time to perform the ceremony, and where, when, and how the ceremony is being performed.

The DM should check each of the following points to determine the final % needed to successfully Resurrect Dead (all points are cumulative):-

(Example: if 1 Level 12 Mancer, 2 Level 5 Mancers,1 Level 7 Mancer, and 10 Mancers of Levels 1-4 participate (total = 14 Mancers) and perform the ceremony for 4 Days 2 Movements, within a Üolarm pentacle with Tarse leaves, upon a cleric of at least 75% damaged body that has been dead for 6 Pentawaeks the final chance of success would be: 10(minimum ceremony time of 2 Movements) +10(1 Mancer >Level 10) +12(2 Mancers of  Level 5 and 1 Mancer of Level 7)  +10(10 Level 1-4 Mancers) +20(2x7 Mancers participating) +12(4 extra Days of ceremony) +10(in Üolarm pentacle) +3(Tarse leaves) +1(at least 75% of body undamaged) -10(dead for over 5 Days but less than a Dodecate) -4(dead was a cleric) = 74% chance of success.)

[Note: the self-sacrifice or sacrifice gives a big chance of success, but the repercussions for those performing the deeds could be immense. The self-sacrifice must be a purely selfless act in an attempt to improve the chances of the resurrection. Regardless of number of sacrifices the point gives only one modifier to the chance of success, though many Evil practitioners believe more gives a greater chance of success.]

Once the chance for success has been determined, and the ceremony perform without interruption, the leader of the ceremony makes the roll to see if they have been successful. Critical Success or Success means the ceremony has brought the target body back to life as described already. Failing the ceremony means the body remains dead, but after an appropriate recovery time, the ceremony may be repeated exactly, or with modifications and the success chance recalculated. If it is a Critical Failure (99-100) then the body starts to turn to dust and is lost with no further chance of resurrection, and furthermore each participating Mancer suffers a debilitating fatigue for 1D6 Days where they can do little more than rest. Anything exertive will call for END rolls and if these fail a Save Vs Poison and Save Vs Hitting must be made. Failing one of these means the debilitating fatigue continues for a further 1D6 Days. Failing both means the debilitating fatigue has started killing the sufferer, and they will last for (END divided by 10)+6 Days before they die, their life essences having been leaked out of them. Some say this is the cost to the gods for their lack of faith, power, or their disregard for the greater powers over life and death.

Some Religions or Orders may have their own modifiers or items available only to that organization.
