THE MOON

Earth's natural satelite: The MoonThe Moon's dark, 'dry' seas are ancient flows of basalts, similar to those found on the ocean floor of Earth. The moon's mountains are mostly an orthosite, a rock that does occur here, but only in very old parts of the world.

Few minerals on the Moon seem to be unique. One was the mineral, armalcolite (named after the American astronauts: Armstrong, Aldrin and Colins. Armalcolite contains iron, oxygen, magnesium and titanium.
