"Study of life in the geological past"

Flesh-eating kangaroos - are they hopping mad?

Proccoptodon - prehistoric marsupial became the kangaroo?Archaeologists have discovered primitive, prehistoric marsupials, over 10 feet in height, they were carnivorous, hunting the Australian continent about 100, 000 years ago.

Proccoptodon, a giant kangaroo, lived alongside huge wombats and flightless ducks, co-existing for millions of years after the dinosaurs before becoming extinct for a reason as yet unknown. Scientists at the National Museum of Australia are trying to solve the mystery using dating techniques. Climate and maybe even the presence of man may have led to their extinction.
